Gawvi formerly known as G-Styles is fully determined to be a music star outside in his own right. He’s best known as a music producer who helped to craft singles and albums for artists such as Rhema Soul, Tedashii, Derek Minor formerly known as PRo and most notably Trip Lee & Lecrae. From the list of collaborators it’s clear to see that he has mostly produced hip hop and trap songs which is why it came as a surprise when he released two EPs last year which, although had hip hop influences, were mostly filled with an EDM vibe.
Just a few days ago he released his debut full length album titled “We Belong” which has been received well by many in the Christian music community. The lead single from the project “Rock n Roll” is definitely a catchy song with a trap beat which is very easy on the ears. The track contains vocals which are layered beautifully and has a laid back delivery.
The album as a whole features glimpses of Gawvi’s faith in the lyrics and according to JamTheHype Gawvi stated that “What I do is just an extension of who I am. And ‘We Belong’ is my heartbeat, it’s my declaration that everyone has a unique purpose and plan.” The project doesn’t have many high profile features and the most notable ones are his close collaborators Andy Mineo & KB who are also his label mates at Reach Records. The pair appears on the album’s second track “God Speed”.
This album is definitely a great start to Gawvi’s transition from producer to singer/vocalist. For someone like me EPs and mixtapes don’t really do it. I appreciate it when artists take their time to create an entire album or original work which I can then consume from start to end. With a debut this good the only way is up for Gawvi.
